Dozens gathered on a late August afternoon to sip lemonade and listen to stories of bygone times to dig deep into local lore. Musicians floated about the grounds as children ran barefoot amongst the stones. History was a focal point as well as preservation of this bucolic cemetery by the historic Christ Church. Please see the "History" tab of our website to see more photos of the sweet day's event!
Do you have family, friends or loved ones buried at Guilford’s Christ Church Cemetery? Do you have any stories about those who are buried there? Do you know people who now live elsewhere but who also have family members buried there? We would love to hear your stories as we try to make connections with local residents who know this historic cemetery.
Keep the spirits alive in Guilford! The Board of Trustees of the CHRIST CHURCH CEMETERY ASSOCIATION announces a Summer Soirée in the Cemetery at the corner of Rte 5 and Melendy Hill Rd, on Sunday, August 28, 2022 between 2–4pm. Join your Guilford neighbors as we share lemonade, cookies, music, and history in the bucolic grounds of the cemetery adjacent to the historic 1817 Guilford Christ Church. In the waning summer days, come out and lend an ear or share a story of loved ones from bygone times; recite a poem or let the children “describe the dash” from gravestone readings; be inspired to paint or photograph the scenery while musicians wander; re-connect with neighbors – or make a new friend. All ages welcome! Donations are welcome and go to maintenance of the cemetery. Join the Association as we celebrate local history, talk about burial options, share upcoming happenings, and pay homage to the loved ones interred. Even if you cannot attend, please get in touch. The CCCA Board of Trustees is trying to deepen our understanding of the people, families, and history of this cemetery, and we would love to hear from you! Share your stories and tell us what you know. Contact Barry at [email protected] for more information. The local Troop 405 Boy Scouts recently met with the local American Legion representative Steve Martin to distribute flags to veteran's grave sites at the Guilford Christ Church cemetery prior to Memorial Day. Please join them and Pack 447 Cub Scouts this coming Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, 2022, at the downtown Brattleboro Common (Park Place) for a special ceremony with the Legion @11am.
